Mahaila (AUS)
Mahaila creates playful, cutesy characters, which ultimately reveal a dark truth. The first incarnation of her creatures was in 2014, where she illustrated and screen printed breakfast item characters for her sustainable sleepwear label, Fickle Sense. Through the use of pen and ink illustrations, Mahaila now exposes and explores the morbid reality of industrialised food production. The vegetables, fruits and legumes are often featured alongside their meaty, diary counterparts, with lollies, grains, snacks and condiments also making appearances. Each are featured in short comics and single images online. She also dabbles within other mediums; sewing, crocheting and embroidering each of the characters.
